Amy Spies

Teacher

Amy is a longtime writer and teacher in film, television, and new media.

She has written documentaries, drama, comedy, as well as blogging for the Huffington Post and Los Angeles Review of Books. Amy is finishing her first novel. One of the movies she wrote is currently being adapted into a musical stage play. She is interested in writing about authenticity, connection, community, and resilience. Amy is a Fellow at the Los Angeles Institute of the Humanities and has an upcoming T.S. Eliot writer’s residency. She has served as a writing awards judge for PEN International Literary Association and as a Writers Guild of America writing mentor and awards judge.

Amy is a graduate of MBSR and Mindful Self-Compassion Teacher Trainings. She has attended mindfulness and psychology conferences, including the Harvard Medical School conference led by Thich Nhat Hanh. Amy graduated from Harvard University, where she studied psychology, literature, and film.
